«Die Transformierer. Entstehung und Prinzipien von Isotype» (The Transformers. Development and Principles of Isotype) is devoted to Marie Neurath as one of the most important actors in this field. Together with contributions by Robin Kinross, this book presents a variety of direct insights into the work around Isotype and shows why it is of lasting value today as an approach, even as a way of thinking for every design discipline. Isotype is intelligent design work: abstract complexity is presented visually in a comprehensible form – and has been since the 1920s. Essential for this creative process is the protagonists behind it – the transformers.

The design concept of the German edition of the book «The Transformer: Principles of Making Isotype Charts» by Marie Neurath and Robin Kinross is based on the aesthetics of the Isotype panels and the related Isotype exhibitions. A hierarchical system regulates the font size, the type area and the image arrangement within the grid. The choice of typeface was decisively influenced by the aesthetics and production methods of the Isotype panels.

The German edition is published by Niggli Verlag with the title «Die Transformierer - Entstehung und Prinzipien von Isotype» and contains 100 illustrations on 176 pages.
